ANGELA Scanlon has revealed that she told BBC bosses a “white lie” in order to land a new presenting job.

The RTE star appeared as a co-host on The One Show back in 2017 while host Alex Jones was out on maternity leave.

However, before landing the gig, Angela admitted that she told producers on the show that she was more experienced than she actually he was.

Speaking on Spencer Matthews‘ Big Fish podcast, the 40-year-old explained how a show boss had asked her if she had “ever done studio” work.

The Meath star lied and said she had done “loads of it Ireland“.

Angela continued: “Then I went off to do Robot Wars and I got a call to say, ‘They want you to fill in on The One Show.’ I was on a train practising how to read autocue and I had no idea what I was doing.”

And although the Irish host highlighted how she had enjoyed her time presenting on the BBC series, she also admitted to being “quite lonely” as a result of lying about her experience.

She said: “I was too afraid to say guys, ‘I don’t know what open and switch means you’re going to have to literally break this down for me’.

“I should have openly said, ‘These are my limitations, I’m going to need help: I think I can do it, I’m pretty sure I can, but I might need you to give me a hand.’

“Whereas I just shut up shop and had to pretend that I knew exactly what I was doing which was quite lonely.”

The popular presenter explained that she had “fooled herself” into believing that “everything would be fantastic” once she landed the role.

Recently, Angela said she was “inappropriately excited” after she landed her “dream” job following in the footsteps of Ryan Tubridy.

The Irish star will now be replacing Graham Norton, who recently bid farewell to the station after a 13-years.

The Cork native had hosted every Saturday and Sunday at 9.30am to 12.30 am.

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant will now be presenting a brand show breakfast show on both days from 7am until 10am.

‘Dreams come true’

Celebrity Juice and Virgin Radio regular Leigh Francis will also be hosting on Saturdays from 10am until 1pm with Tom Allen covering the same slot on Sundays.

Speaking of her exciting news, the 40-year-old said: “I know how many of you have dreamt about waking up to my husky dulcet tones, well dreams come true gang!

“I’ll be getting up with you every weekend on Virgin Radio and I am inappropriately excited. Stick the kettle on!”
